Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor Module

The Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor Module is a highly reliable, corrosion-resistant soil humidity sensor designed to measure moisture levels in the soil using capacitive sensing technology. Ideal for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and automatic irrigation systems.

Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor Module

The Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor Module is an advanced analog soil moisture detection module that accurately measures the water content of soil. Unlike traditional resistive sensors that corrode over time, this capacitive sensor uses a capacitor-based sensing method, ensuring long-term stability and durability even in humid or wet environments.

It’s designed for seamless integration with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontroller platforms, making it perfect for smart gardening, automatic watering systems, and agriculture-based IoT projects.

This sensor outputs an analog voltage signal proportional to soil moisture. The drier the soil, the lower the output; the wetter the soil, the higher the output — allowing easy real-time soil moisture monitoring.

Key Features

Capacitive Technology: No exposed electrodes — prevents corrosion and extends lifespan.
Analog Output: Simple interface for microcontrollers like Arduino and ESP32.
Wide Operating Voltage: Works with 3.3V to 5V systems.
High Sensitivity: Accurate and stable soil moisture readings.
Long Life: Durable PCB coating for use in outdoor or greenhouse environments.
Compact Design: Easy to insert and remove from soil.

Technical Specifications

  • Operating Voltage: 3.3V – 5V

  • Output Type: Analog voltage signal

  • Interface Type: 3-pin (VCC, GND, AOUT)

  • Sensor Type: Capacitive (non-corrosive)

  • Compatibility: Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, STM32

  • Dimensions: Approx. 98mm x 23mm

  • Material: Epoxy coated FR4 PCB

How It Works

This module measures soil moisture by detecting changes in capacitance caused by variations in water content. When soil moisture increases, the dielectric constant changes, leading to a measurable voltage change at the output pin. You can read this analog voltage using an Arduino analog input pin, then display or use it to trigger a relay-controlled water pump for automated irrigation.

Applications

🌱 Smart Irrigation Systems
💧 Automatic Plant Watering Projects
🏡 Home Gardening Automation
🌿 Agricultural Monitoring Systems
📊 Soil Data Logging and IoT Projects
🔬 Environmental Research and Education

Precautions

⚠️ Avoid submerging the entire sensor in water — only the probe should contact soil.
⚠️ Ensure a stable 3.3–5V power supply for accurate readings.
⚠️ Keep away from conductive liquids like saltwater to prevent measurement errors.
⚠️ Use waterproof connectors when installing outdoors.
